Morgan Silver Dollars
I saw an ad on TV this morning selling Morgans in good condition for 19.90 each, limit of 5 and I was wondering if that was a good price or not. Thanks for any help!

use this link
http://www.pcgs.com/prices/frame.cht...morgan_regular These are for graded/slabbed coins. so unless they are graded, really they are worth a bit over melt. they might be worth about 17 each. someone else here will know better |
Re: Morgan Silver Dollars
No, not a good deal at all. Assuming they're in "good" condition, like G-4 (not using "good" to mean uncirculated or something), then they are worth melt value, which is about $11.
See www.coinflation.com. Morgans are often overpriced. They are very common, and unless a rare date or high grade, they are worth bullion value. That's all a dealer will give you for them, is melt value or a little under. |
Re: Morgan Silver Dollars
ask yourself why are you interested in these ?
as an historical coin or for silver content ? if you're just looking for silver put this money toward a 10oz silver bar imho |
Re: Morgan Silver Dollars
Radio and TV hawking costs big bucks. Who do you think pays for it?
$19.50 = insane pricing. They're working to take money from unsuspecting people who don't know anything about silver or silver dollars. My advice is to ignor them and as possible, warn others you know who might be unwittingly taken in by this scam. |
Re: Morgan Silver Dollars
Look around - there are deals to be found. Just this week I bought 50 Morgans for 6.75 each and many were AU/UNC :applause_

Re: Morgan Silver Dollars
Wouldn't $6.75 be under melt value? It's hard to find Morgans for a good deal, everything is being slabbed and people are buying the slabbed Morgans!

Re: Morgan Silver Dollars
OK I'll fess up... I went to an aquaintence house for T-day and the conversation drifted to bullion and coins. Someone there said they had a bunch of silver including dollars they wanted to sell. So I asked how many and how much and they said about 50 and how about $7 ea? (Since we had been discussing how junk silver was sold by faceX instead of numismatic value and 7x was recently in the conversation) I gave him $350 and counted 52 coins ($6.73 each)- 20 Morgans and 32 Peace, most of them XF common dates with a 3 or 4 AU/UNC. I also got a 10oz US Assay Strategic Reserve SF bar for $140.
He is counting up all his 90% to mail me at 7x face and also 21 oz of .999 rounds at (spot - 10%) and a half oz gold maple proof at spot. He said my offer was better than what he could get locally and I was out of cash. I turned down the 1984 Olympic proof sets, 40% halves and wheat pennies. So... there are deals out there but you won't find them at a dealer. If someone accepts your lowball offer - make sure to ask them if they are happy with the deal as they are counting your money.:tongue_ma: Here is another tip.... go into your local 7-11 and offer the guy behind the counter triple (4x whatever) face value for any silver they find in the register. You'd be surprised how much they can come up with over time. I once got over $100 for 4x that the owner had been saving from the cash drawer. Most of them don't follow silver prices and are so low paid they jump at 3x. Another way is to go to the local bank and buy every half dollar they have. Pull the 40 & 90% and dump the clad back at your branch. |
